Manufacturing and processing: Enquiry form for glass processors
An enquiry form for glass processors that asks for dimensions, thickness, glass type, edge finish and the position of holes and cut-outs, so nothing needs changing once the glass is tempered.
What makes an enquiry complete for glass processors.
An enquiry for glass looks simple: width, height and thickness. But at glass processors whether it can be made depends on much more. Is the size the finished glass size, or has a clearance already been deducted? Where do the holes for the hinges go, and how far from the edge? Is there a cut-out for a socket, and is it dimensioned from its centre or its edge? Which edges are polished and which sit in a channel? If any of that is missing, the sales office calls back or the glass gets cut on an assumption. With toughened glass a mistake only shows after tempering, and by then there is no saving it.

From form to assessed enquiry.
Choose application and glass type
The customer first picks the application, such as a shower screen, splashback, mirror or table top. Based on that, the form suggests a usual glass type and thickness, which the customer can change. Where toughened glass is the norm, the form states straight away that all processing has to be fixed in advance.
Record sizes, edges and cut-outs
For each pane the form asks for dimensions, the edge finish per side and the position of holes and cut-outs, always from a clear reference point. A sketch of the pane shows what has been entered, so the customer can see whether a cut-out is on the right side. Irregular shapes can be supplied as a drawing.
Check and hand over
Before sending, the form checks that holes are not too close to the edge and that dimensions fall within what your glass types allow. The sales office receives one record with all panes and sees at once which points still raise questions. Nothing is cut on a guess.
Enquiries in one place, not the inbox.
Glass processors receive enquiries by email, by phone from glaziers and as measurement sheets in their own format from larger trade customers. The form gives them all the same structure; the sales office can transfer a phoned or emailed enquiry into it. The data goes to the order system or the cutting optimisation. The customer is responsible for their dimensions, production engineering for judging what is technically feasible.
Customer measures or you survey
A glazier or kitchen fitter usually measures on site and takes responsibility for the dimensions. With consumers or complex situations, a survey by your own people can prevent errors, but it costs a visit. The form asks who took the measurements, so if something is wrong it is clear where responsibility lies.
Standard hole positions or free entry
Shower doors and hinges have common drilling positions depending on the hardware. The form can offer those as a choice, which reduces errors. For unusual hardware the customer must be able to enter positions freely. A combination works: pick the hardware or state the positions yourself, and the chosen hardware is carried onto the measurement sheet.
Pane by pane or a full sheet
A consumer asking for one or two panes benefits from a form per pane with a sketch. A trade customer sometimes supplies dozens of panes on a measurement sheet and has no wish to retype them one by one. The form therefore offers both: enter panes individually or upload a sheet the sales office imports.

Read the storyWhich questions the form asks.
From the start, the form asks per pane for application, glass type, dimensions, edges and cut-outs, with a sketch for checking and a basic check on edge distances. Together we send a simple made-to-measure mirror through it and a shower screen with hinge holes and a sloping top. Reading in measurement sheets from trade customers and passing enquiries to your order system, so dimensions are not retyped, you switch on afterwards.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the form check whether a hole is too close to the edge?
Yes, based on the rules your production engineers use for distance to the edge and to other holes, depending on thickness and glass type. If a hole breaches that limit, the customer gets a message with an explanation. The final judgement stays with production engineering.
What if the customer has a shape that is not rectangular?
They can choose a free shape and supply a drawing or template. For common variations, such as a raked side or a radiused corner, the form offers simple input fields. For complex shapes a cardboard or hardboard template is often the most reliable.
How do we avoid confusion between opening size and glass size?
The form asks explicitly whether the size given is the final glass size or the opening the glass goes into. For an opening it asks about the frame or clearance, or lets the sales office determine the glass size. That choice is clearly recorded.
Can trade customers keep using their own measurement sheet?
Yes. They can upload it, and if it has a fixed format we import it so the panes appear in the record. With an unknown format, the sales office transfers the data. Over time it may make sense to agree a standard format with your largest trade accounts.
