Manufacturing and processing: Quotation software for glass processors
Quotation software for glass processors that works out glass usage from the cutting plan, edgework per linear metre, holes, cut-outs and tempering, with the assumptions visible to the customer.
Where quotes for glass processors get stuck.
A glass price is about much more than square metres. How many panes come out of a jumbo sheet, and what remnant is left? How many linear metres of edge need grinding or polishing, and to which finish? How many holes and cut-outs, and do they need extra handwork? Does the glass go into a tempering batch, and does this order fill that batch or have to wait? At many glass processors the estimator prices this from a price list and experience. Two quotes for nearly identical shower screens come out differently, and when a customer queries the price nobody can see which edge finish and cutting waste were included.

Record panes and processes
The estimator takes the panes from the enquiry with dimensions, glass type, thickness and processes. For each pane the software totals linear metres of edge per finish, the number of holes and cut-outs and whether the pane is toughened or laminated. Missing details are flagged as assumptions.
Price cutting plan and processing
Glass usage is calculated from a cutting plan or a fixed allowance for cutting waste, depending on what you use. Edgework, drilling and cut-outs are priced per unit. Tempering appears as a separate item, with a minimum per batch for small orders if you apply one.
Proposal and acceptance
The customer receives a proposal per pane with the processes in plain language and a total. Assumptions, such as a standard edge finish or an estimated size, are clearly stated. Once accepted, the quote and calculation are locked; a change of size becomes a new version.
Alongside your calculations and price lists.
Glass processors usually work with a price list per glass type and thickness, rates for edgework and drilling, and often a cutting optimisation program. The quotation software uses your existing prices and rates and, where possible, the result of the cutting optimisation. Management sets rates, purchasing sets glass prices and the estimator owns the calculation rules. Each price records which rates applied at the time. Once accepted, the quote moves on to the order system.
Cutting waste per order or as an allowance
Actual cutting waste depends on which panes are cut together from one sheet, and that is often unknown when quoting. A fixed allowance per glass type is simple and predictable. Pricing on the actual cutting plan is more accurate for large orders. Many processors combine the two: an allowance for small orders, a cutting plan for large ones.
Minimum price for small panes
A small mirror takes almost as many handling steps as a large pane: cutting, edging, packing. A minimum per pane or per edge finish prevents losses on small pieces. Minimums set too high put consumers off. The software shows where a minimum was applied, so the customer understands why a small piece is relatively expensive.
Temper per order or per batch
A tempering furnace runs more efficiently with a full batch. A small order can wait until there is enough glass, or go straight in with a surcharge. That is a choice between lead time and price. The quote can show both, so the customer decides whether they want it faster or cheaper.

At the start, the quote calculates panes by dimensions, glass type, edge finish, holes, cut-outs and toughening, with a fixed allowance for cutting waste. We compare the outcomes together with recent quotes from your estimator and with a tricky order, such as a glass partition with several laminated panes and cut-outs. Only when that comparison holds does it join daily estimating. Pricing on the actual cutting plan and online acceptance you switch on when you are ready.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the software use our cutting optimisation?
If your cutting optimisation can export usage per order, we read it in and the quote prices on the actual cutting plan. If not, the software uses an allowance per glass type that you set yourselves. The method used is recorded with the quote.
How do we price a raked or curved pane?
The software prices glass usage on the enclosing rectangle and edgework on the actual perimeter, with a surcharge for raked or curved edges if you apply one. The price can be explained, even when glass usage exceeds the visible area.
What if the customer wants an extra hole after the quote?
Then a new version of the quote is created with the extra hole. As long as the glass is not yet toughened, that is possible. If it already is, the software shows that a new pane is needed and what it costs. The customer understands why a small extra can turn out expensive.
Can trade customers have their own price agreement?
Yes. Different rates or discounts can be recorded per customer. The quote automatically applies the agreement for that customer. The estimator does not have to look up what was agreed with a particular glazier every time.
