Manufacturing and processing: Operations dashboard for textile printers
An operations dashboard for textile printers that shows misprints by method, fabric and press, with the job card and approved proof behind every figure.
Which figures textile printers really need.
Textile printers usually know that misprints happen, but not where the pattern lies. A bin of rejected shirts says nothing about the cause. Was it the method, the fabric, the press, the ink, or a proof that was not adjusted for small sizes? Without recording per job it stays a hunch: polyester goes wrong more often, or the old carousel sometimes drifts out of register. Meanwhile remakes are squeezed into the schedule and replacement garments ordered, without anyone noticing it keeps happening on the same type of job. A dashboard has to connect those separate incidents into something you can act on.

Define misprints and causes
DoneFirst we agree what a misprint is and which causes are distinguished: misregistered, poor coverage, smudge, scorched fabric, wrong placement or wrong design.
- 2
Connect job card, order and stock
In progressThe dashboard takes misprints and causes from the job card, method and fabric from the order, and replacement garments from inventory.
- 3
Investigate the patterns
NextWhen a combination stands out, such as transfers on a particular softshell or underbased screen prints on one press, you click through to the jobs involved, with proofs and notes.
From scattered figures to one overview.
Define misprints and causes
First we agree what a misprint is and which causes are distinguished: misregistered, poor coverage, smudge, scorched fabric, wrong placement or wrong design. Also what does not count, such as a test print or a piece the client damaged. Those definitions apply to everyone recording.
Connect job card, order and stock
The dashboard takes misprints and causes from the job card, method and fabric from the order, and replacement garments from inventory. That gives a picture per job, method and press of how much went wrong, what it cost in garments and time, and how often the same cause recurred.
Investigate the patterns
When a combination stands out, such as transfers on a particular softshell or underbased screen prints on one press, you click through to the jobs involved, with proofs and notes. That gives you a basis to change a setting, stop recommending a fabric or set up proofs differently from now on.
Figures from your own work.
The data often already exists in part at textile printers: orders in the order system, stock with purchasing and misprints on a scrap of paper or in a spreadsheet. We connect only what the agreed definitions need. The dashboard only reads and changes nothing itself. The floor owns misprint records, purchasing owns garment data, sales owns orders. Every figure traces back to a job.
Misprints by method or by press
By method you see which technique goes wrong most, but one method often runs on several presses with different people. By press you see whether a machine needs attention. Together the two views show whether a problem lies with the method or the execution. You can switch between them in one click.
Show cost or only counts
Misprint counts are easy, but a misprinted jacket weighs more than a tee. Showing cost needs purchase prices and a time estimate but gives a fairer picture. We start with counts and add cost once purchase data is reliably connected, keeping the first view simple.
Include client rejections or not
A job that passes internally can still be rejected by the client, for instance over a colour that differs from what they expected. That is not a misprint in the technical sense, but it is a signal. Recording it separately stops it muddying the technical figures, while both stay visible side by side.

From the start, misprints per technique, fabric and press with their cause are on the dashboard, with click-throughs to order, job card and proof. Together we check an ordinary month of orders and a period when a new fabric goes wrong more often than expected. Cost per misprint, customer rejection as a separate category and a comparison with earlier periods you add once causes are reported reliably.

Explore pricing and optionsDo we have enough records to see anything?
That depends on how consistently misprints are recorded. At first the picture is thin, but even a short period of recording by cause often reveals a pattern. The dashboard also shows how many jobs have no record, so you know how complete the picture is.
Can we see misprints per employee?
Technically yes, but it rarely works well. When records are used to call people to account, fewer get recorded. Most print shops therefore look at method, fabric and press. If there is a training need, it usually shows up in that data too.
Does the dashboard show how much time remakes take?
If the job card records time spent on remakes, it can be included. Otherwise we use an estimate per method. That is enough to see whether remakes take a noticeable share of capacity, without needing an exact measurement.
Can we use the dashboard in conversations with suppliers?
Yes, when a pattern is tied to a particular fabric or batch of garments. With the jobs, photos and causes attached you have a well founded case. Without that evidence it remains a complaint that is hard to verify.
What often connects to this.
- Digital job cards for textile printersDigital job cards for textile printers that bring the approved placement proof, size breakdown and press settings to the press, and record counts and misprints per job.
- Website for textile printersA website for textile printers that sets printing methods and garment models side by side, so a client understands which method suits their design, run size and fabric.
- Enquiry form for textile printersAn enquiry form for textile printers that collects size breakdown, print placements and artwork in one go, so an enquiry does not stall on a missing file or an unknown size.
