Construction and installation: Digital job cards for sun-shading installers
Digital job cards for sun-shading installers carrying the surveyed specification, mounting method and wiring per opening, where fitters record the result and any deviations.
What a job card for sun-shading installers should hold.
The adviser surveys the job and writes sizes, mounting method and details on a survey sheet. At sun-shading installers that sheet then passes through the office to the order and the fitter, and information drops out along the way: that the cassette goes inside the reveal, that the customer wants the motor on the left, or that a gutter needs extra clearance. On site, the fitter finds the brackets do not suit the frame or the cable has to go a different way. Whatever is changed there is never reported back, so a service engineer later has no idea what is really installed.

From preparation to signed-off card.
Prepare the spec per opening
The job card carries over, per opening, what was surveyed and ordered: type, sizes, fabric, frame colour, controls, mounting method and which side the motor or crank sits. The adviser's notes are on it too, such as a soldier course, an outside light in the way or the cable route. Survey photos come along.
Record installation and deviations
The fitter works through the openings and ticks off each one as installed. If something has to change, such as different brackets or a cable route through another wall, they record it with a photo and reason. Extra work, such as a longer cable, goes on the card as a separate line.
Set up and hand over
After installation the fitter records how each unit was set up: end positions, remote pairing and the wind sensor setting. The customer signs off after being shown the controls. Those details stay linked to the address, so a service engineer later knows which motor and settings are in place.
No more paper and loose photos.
Sun-shading companies often rely on paper survey sheets, a supplier ordering portal and a calendar for fitters. The job card uses data from the quote and survey, so the fitter sees the same specification the supplier received. A phone or tablet is enough. The adviser owns the survey, the fitter owns what was actually installed, and the office owns orders and warranty. Signed-off job cards move on to invoicing.
Survey on paper or digitally
A paper survey sheet is quick and familiar, but has to be copied later, with a risk of errors in sizes. Surveying on a tablet removes the retyping and forces every field to be filled. It does require advisers to find the form practical in real conditions, including up a ladder or in the rain.
Fitter decides or calls first
A fitter can resolve many deviations alone, such as a different bracket or a shorter screw. Where a change affects the customer, such as a new cable route through the living room, checking with the customer or the office is wise. The job card can mark per type of deviation whether consultation is needed.
Record settings or skip it
Recording end positions and wind settings takes the fitter a few minutes. The benefit comes later: on a service call, the engineer knows what the setting was and whether the customer has changed it. For simple manual units it matters less than for motorised awnings with sensors.

What goes on the job card.
Job cards per order carry the surveyed specification per opening, survey photos, deviations with reasons, settings after installation and customer sign-off. Before fitters take them out, we walk through a routine screen installation and a folding-arm awning whose brackets do not suit the wall, so it is clear how a solution on site gets recorded. Digital surveying and service visits on the same job card can be added after that.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the fitter see the original survey photos?
Yes. The photos the adviser took during the survey appear per opening on the job card. The fitter sees the situation as it was assessed, including a gutter or outside light. Their own photos after installation sit alongside, so the before and after remain visible.
How do we record extra wiring for the invoice?
The fitter adds a line describing the extra work, such as a longer cable or an additional entry through the wall, with a photo. That line goes through to invoicing, where the office decides whether it was already quoted or should be charged as extra work.
What if the customer is out when we finish?
The fitter can complete the installation and close the job card without a signature, adding a note. The customer then receives a summary with photos and an explanation of the controls, and can confirm digitally. Any comments from the customer go back to the office for follow-up.
Do we keep details per address for future servicing?
Yes. After sign-off, type, motor, controls and settings per opening are stored against the address. On a service request or follow-up order, the office can see what is installed. That also helps when a house changes hands and the new owner gets in touch.
