Repairs and specialist services: Digital job cards for shoe repair shops
Digital job cards for shoe repair shops: a repair ticket with a pair reference that tracks the chosen work, the intake photos and the materials used until the pair is collected.
What a job card for shoe repair shops should hold.
Shoe repairers rarely lose a pair, but they lose a lot of information. The ticket sits inside the shoe, the stub with the customer, and what was actually agreed lives in the head of whoever took the pair in. Was it a leather or rubber heel? Did the old sole need to be kept? Did the customer want the zip in the same colour? When a pair comes back months later because the heel has worked loose again, nobody can find out which material was used. And with two repairers in the workshop, one does not know what the other promised at the counter.

Ticket with pair reference
At intake each pair gets a repair ticket with a pair reference that matches the tag on the shoes and the customer's stub. The ticket holds the chosen repairs, the customer's wishes and a few photos of how the pair came in. If the customer has been before, the previous ticket is linked.
Record work and material
At the bench the repairer ticks off each repair and the material used: type of sole, heel block, thread colour, zip type. If something stands out, such as a tear in the lining, they note it with a photo. A colleague picking up the pair sees exactly what remains to be done.
Check and set aside
Before the pair goes back on the rack, the repairer runs a short check: is the sole secure, are the edges finished, has the pair been cleaned. The ticket is then marked ready and the pair goes to its place on the collection rack, with the reference visible to whoever is at the counter.
No more paper and loose photos.
The tags and tear-off stubs stay; the number now points to a digital ticket. If you have a till system that prints tickets, the pair reference can come from there. Customer details stay in the till or customer list and the ticket only holds a reference. Staff take photos with a tablet or phone at the counter, with no special equipment needed.
Photos for every pair or only when in doubt
Photos for every pair take a few extra seconds and settle any argument about damage at collection. For cheap quick repairs, many repairers find that overkill. A middle way is to photograph expensive shoes, damage to uppers and repairs with a completion date, but not a heel tip done while the customer waits.
Record material per repair or not
Noting which sole or heel block you used takes one extra tap. It pays off when a pair comes back and you want to know whether the material or the fixing was the cause. It also helps with purchasing. For small repairs that always use the same material, it can be filled in by default.
Keep old parts or throw them away
Some customers want their old sole or heel back, for example with designer shoes. Most do not. Asking at intake and noting it on the ticket tells the repairer what to do, and there is no bag of old soles in the workshop that nobody can match to an owner.

The repair ticket holds the pair reference, intake photos, chosen work, materials used and a short check before the pair is set aside. Which check belongs to which repair is agreed at the start. Together we follow an ordinary resole from intake to collection, and a pair returning because the heel has come loose again. Showing earlier tickets per customer and passing material use through to stock can be switched on later.

Explore pricing and optionsWhat if a customer loses their stub?
You find the ticket by the customer's name or phone number, or from a photo of the pair. The ticket shows the pair reference, so you take the right pair off the rack. The stub is handy but no longer the only key.
Can we see which repairs were done to a pair before?
Yes, if the pair has been with you before under the same customer. New tickets link to earlier ones, so when a pair returns you see which sole and heel block were used. That helps pin down the cause.
Does the repairer have to use a screen with dirty hands?
Ticking off can happen after finishing a step, with large buttons and minimal text. A tablet on the wall by the bench or a screen at the counter is enough. Most entries happen at intake, not during the work.
Can we keep track of pairs that have not been collected?
Yes. Every ticket marked ready that has not been collected for a long time appears in a list with date and customer details. You can send reminders and keep an eye on what is lingering on the collection rack.
