Repairs and specialist services: Customer portal for sailmakers
A customer portal for sailmakers where boat owners see and approve their pattern, cloth sample and hardware choices, so nothing is cut until the owner has agreed.
What customers of sailmakers want to see.
With sailmakers the owner has to decide at several points, but those moments get tangled across email and phone. Which canvas colour, where do the windows go, should the zip be on the left or right, will the sun strip match the cover? The sailmaker emails a sketch, the owner replies to an older version or calls from the boat with a new wish. What was finally agreed sits in a thread only the sailmaker can find. When the cover is finished and the owner expected a window somewhere else, there is no recorded approval to fall back on.

From invitation to approval.
Access per owner and boat
An owner sees their own boat with its current orders. Someone with several boats, or a club with club boats, sees them separately per boat. A co-owner can follow along without being able to approve, if the main owner wishes. Access runs through a personal link or a login.
Pattern and cloth for approval
The portal shows the sketch or pattern with the position of windows, zips and hardware, plus the chosen cloth with a photo of the sample. At each point the owner can approve or ask a question. A new version visibly replaces the old one, so nobody ever responds to an outdated sketch.
Approval back to the loft
Once the owner approves pattern and cloth, the order in the loft is marked ready to cut. Questions go to the sailmaker as a notification. Fitting appointments and the delivery date are also in the portal, where the owner can say the boat is moored somewhere else.
Less email, the same records.
Communication with owners currently runs through email, phone and messages. The portal draws sketches, cloth choices and appointments from the job card, quote and schedule, so nothing is kept twice. Patterns are still made in the drawing software; the portal shows an export. The sailmaker owns patterns and technical choices; the boat owner manages their contact details and current mooring.
Physical samples or photos in the portal
A photo of a cloth sample gives an impression, but colour and texture vary on every screen. For canvas that has to match the hull, a physical sample is more reliable. Many sailmakers show the photo in the portal as a reminder and post a sample when in doubt. The approval itself is recorded in the portal.
Approve per element or as a whole
Approving each element separately, cloth, windows and hardware, gives clear agreements but can feel like bureaucracy. One approval for everything is quicker but shows less clearly what the owner agreed to. A middle path is one approval with a short list of the main choices above it, so nothing slips through unnoticed.
Show the pattern or just a sketch
A full pattern is unreadable for many owners. A simplified sketch showing windows, zips and press studs means more to them. The full pattern stays internal. For owners who want to see it, such as someone who does a lot of work on their own boat, it can be added as an extra attachment.

Per boat the owner sees the current order in the portal, the sketch with windows and hardware, the chosen cloth and the fitting appointment, and approves or asks a question. At the start you decide which documents the owner gets to see. Together we go through an ordinary cockpit cover approved in one go, and an owner who wants the zip moved to the other side after the first approval. A history per boat and documents such as care advice go on whenever you want them.

Explore pricing and optionsDoes an owner need to log in to approve a sketch?
Not necessarily. An owner with a single order can approve through a personal link. Someone who orders more often, or a club with several boats, is better served by an account. Both record the approval with date and name.
What if an owner wants a change after approving?
The sailmaker creates a new version of the sketch with the change and, if needed, an adjusted price. If cutting has already happened, that is shown along with what the change will cost. The owner approves the new version separately; the earlier approval is kept.
Can the owner see in the portal when the cover will be ready?
Yes. The portal shows the order status, from pattern and cutting to sewing and ready for fitting, plus the planned fitting appointment. If it moves, the owner sees the new date with a short note and can respond if the boat will not be reachable then.
Can we put care advice for sails and covers in the portal?
Yes. A delivered product can carry a short guide on cleaning, winter storage and when to have it checked. That helps the owner and prevents complaints about mould or discolouring from poor storage. You manage the text yourselves per product.
