Repairs and specialist services: AI enquiry assistant for sailmakers
An AI enquiry assistant for sailmakers that answers questions about cloth options, canvas and care from your approved explanations, and refers owners on when their question needs a sailmaker.
Which questions sailmakers keep getting.
Sailmakers get many questions about cloth that are really the same: what is the difference between woven polyester and a laminate, which canvas fades least, can a window in a sprayhood be replaced, how should I store a cover over winter? Those questions often arrive in the evening and at weekends, when owners are on board with time to think. The sailmaker answers between sewing and visits. Some questions cannot be answered in general terms, though: which cloth suits my boat and my sailing depends on the boat, the waters and the owner's wishes. An assistant must not start giving advice there.

Gather approved explanations
The assistant uses only texts the loft has released: explanations of cloth types, canvas and film, care and storage advice, how to enquire and arrange a survey, and opening hours. It only mentions product names and prices if those texts include them. Anything outside them, it should not claim to know.
Tell general questions from advice
A question about how cloth types differ in general is answered from the approved explanation. A question about which cloth suits a specific boat is advice the sailmaker has to give. The assistant recognises the difference, explains what information the sailmaker needs and points to the enquiry form.
Answer or pass it on
For a question covered by approved information, the assistant answers briefly and names the source. For doubt, a complaint about a delivered product or a question about an order in progress, it passes the conversation to the loft with the question and the boat attached. The owner knows a sailmaker will follow up.
On your own information, with a person behind it.
Sailmakers often already have the answers in cloth suppliers' brochures, their own care advice and emails sent many times before. We gather those into a set of approved texts in your own words, which the loft manages. The assistant sits on the website, beside product pages or the enquiry form. Handovers arrive in the existing inbox or enquiry list, so there is no new channel to watch.
General cloth guidance or per product
General guidance on cloth types is easy to maintain, but an owner asking about a sprayhood wants to know which cloth applies to covers, not sails. Guidance per product is more relevant but means more texts. A middle path is a general base with a short addition per product group on the cloths you use there.
Refer strictly or answer broadly
A strict assistant refers any question that leans towards advice to the sailmaker. That means more work but no wrong advice. A broader assistant answers more itself, at the risk of an answer that does not suit the boat. For cloth choice per boat we choose strict; for care and storage it can be broader.
Use it for repair questions too
Repair questions are often urgent: a torn sail mid season. The assistant can explain how to report a repair and what is needed, but cannot judge whether the sail can be saved. So with repairs it hands over to a person sooner, and an owner with a damaged sail is not left stuck in a conversation.

With approved texts the assistant answers questions about cloth types, canvas and film, care and storage, surveys and enquiries; for advice on a specific boat or when unsure, it hands over to the loft. We gather those texts with you at the start. Together we try an ordinary question about storing a cover in winter, and an owner asking which sailcloth is best for their boat. Texts in more languages can be switched on afterwards.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the assistant advise which cloth suits a boat?
No. It can explain how cloth types differ in general, but the choice for a specific boat depends on the boat, the waters and the owner's wishes. For that it refers to the sailmaker and explains what information they will need.
Can the assistant answer questions about an order in progress?
No, it does not. Questions about a current order, such as the delivery date or a sketch, are passed to the loft or pointed to the customer portal, where the owner sees that information directly. The assistant does not need to know which owner it is talking to.
What if cloth suppliers change their information?
The assistant uses your own texts, not the supplier's directly. If something changes about a cloth or you stop offering a variant, you update the relevant text. From then on the assistant gives the new explanation.
Does the assistant speak Dutch or German too?
If you supply or approve the texts in those languages, it can answer in them. That helps in marinas with many visiting owners. Without an approved translation it answers in the main site language and offers contact with the loft.
What often connects to this.
- Enquiry form for sailmakersAn enquiry form for sailmakers that asks for vessel measurements, boat type and photos of fixing points, so the sailmaker knows whether to price straight away or measure first.

- Quotation software for sailmakersQuotation software for sailmakers that turns cloth area, cloth choice and marine hardware into a quote with named options, so owners can see where two versions actually differ.
