Repairs and specialist services: Quotation software for sailmakers
Quotation software for sailmakers that turns cloth area, cloth choice and marine hardware into a quote with named options, so owners can see where two versions actually differ.
Where quotes for sailmakers get stuck.
A quote from sailmakers is made of many choices that affect each other. A fully battened mainsail needs different hardware and more work than one with short battens, an extra reef means extra reinforcement, and a heavier cloth changes the whole figure. A sprayhood adds windows, zips and the number of press studs. Today that calculation often lives in the sailmaker's spreadsheet, and the owner gets a total with a brief description. Asking for an alternative means starting over. And if the hardware on the boat turns out different from what was assumed, nobody can see which assumption was in the price.

From enquiry to signed quote.
Start from boat and product
The quote begins with the measurements from the enquiry or survey and where they came from. From those the system works out cloth area per panel or per cover section. The sailmaker picks the construction, such as cut, batten plan or number of cover sections, and sees at once what that means for cloth and hours.
Cloth and hardware as options
Cloth choice and hardware appear as separate options with their own price: a longer lasting sailcloth, an extra reef, stainless rings instead of pressed eyelets, a window that opens. The sailmaker quickly builds two or three versions, and the owner sees what each option adds rather than just a different total.
Record the proposal with assumptions
Every quote lists its assumptions: that existing hardware stays, whether measurements were taken or came from class data, and whether fitting on board is included. The owner chooses a version and approves it. That approval, with the chosen cloth and hardware, becomes the basis for pattern and production.
Alongside your calculations and price lists.
Sailmakers usually quote using their own spreadsheet, a word processor and the accounting package. Prices for cloth per square metre, hardware per item and hours per construction come from that spreadsheet, and the sailmaker remains the owner of those tables. An accepted quote can go to the accounting package as a draft or deposit invoice. Measurements and photos come from the enquiry form or are entered after a survey visit.
Performance cloth or longer life
An owner who sails little gets more from an affordable woven polyester than from a laminate that ages faster when left furled in the sun. A keen racer thinks the opposite. Putting cloth options side by side with their effect on weight, shape and lifespan lets the owner choose what suits how they actually sail.
Reuse existing hardware or replace it
Reusing slides, rings or press studs saves money, but old hardware may be worn or a slightly different size. Replacing costs more, but the new sail or cover is sure to fit. The quote shows both with the assumption stated, so the owner knows what happens if the old hardware fails at the fitting.
Fitting included or charged separately
A fixed price including fitting gives the owner certainty, but the sailmaker carries the risk of an extra visit. Charging fitting separately is fairer for boats far away or with awkward fixings. Many sailmakers include one fitting in the price and charge further visits based on travel time.

Your price tables for cloth, hardware and hours are in place, the software calculates cloth area from measurements and you build versions with options and assumptions. Those tables are brought over at the start. Together we go through an ordinary quote for a furling genoa, and a sprayhood where the owner wants an extra window halfway through and switches hardware. The deposit invoice and passing the chosen version on to the pattern go on whenever you want them.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the quote show what an extra option costs?
Yes. Each option, such as an extra reef, a sun strip on a furling headsail or an opening window, is its own line with its own price. The owner sees what a choice adds and can switch options on or off before approving.
How do we handle measurements that turn out different later?
The quote states where the measurements came from. If they differ at the survey or fitting, the system creates a revised version with the new figures and the difference in cloth and labour. The owner approves it separately, so the original agreement never changes quietly.
Can we ask for a deposit with the quote?
Yes, if that is your practice. On approval a deposit is prepared as an invoice or payment request, using the share or amount you set per product. The balance follows after delivery and fitting, and the final invoice deducts the deposit automatically.
Does this also work for sail repairs?
For repairs a shorter quote format works better, with the damage, the repair method and the material. The system uses the same price tables for cloth and hours but skips calculating a full cloth area. Small repairs stay quick to price.
What often connects to this.
- Enquiry form for sailmakersAn enquiry form for sailmakers that asks for vessel measurements, boat type and photos of fixing points, so the sailmaker knows whether to price straight away or measure first.
- Digital job cards for sailmakersDigital job cards for sailmakers: a pattern with a dimension check for each order, bringing together measured figures, checked points and changes made after fitting.
- Invoicing software for sailmakersInvoicing software for sailmakers that keeps the deposit, the balance on delivery and the actual fitting work on board together per order, from quote to paid final invoice.
