Picture framers often work from supplier price lists, a spreadsheet or a till system holding standard prices. We take the cost prices per metre of moulding and per square metre of glass and board from those lists, with the markup the shop applies. The framer manages the prices and updates them when a supplier raises them. An accepted quote can be passed to the till or to invoicing, so the price doesn't need keying in twice.
Price per metre or fixed price per size
A price built up per metre and per square metre is precise but hard for the customer to follow. For common sizes you can use fixed prices per moulding, which is quicker at the counter. Non-standard sizes are still priced per metre, so bespoke framing is never sold below cost.
Charge for mitre waste or absorb it
Every frame loses moulding when the corners are cut, and with wide mouldings that adds up. You can build that loss into the price per metre or calculate it separately for each frame. Separate calculation is fairer for wide mouldings, but makes the quote harder for the customer to read at a glance.
Ask for a deposit or settle on collection
For an ordinary framing, many framers take payment on collection. For an expensive moulding, museum glass or a large business series they often ask for a deposit, because the material is ordered in specially. State in the quote when each part is due, so it isn't a surprise at the counter.

Yes, if the supplier provides a price list as a file. The software reads the prices per moulding and material and applies the markup you set per category. When prices go up you import the new list, and new quotes use the new prices straight away.
How do we price a double mount?
For a double mount you enter the width of both layers and the visible edge of the lower layer. The software then includes board for both layers and the extra cutting. The outer size of the frame is adjusted accordingly, so you see the effect immediately.
Can the customer look at the quote again at home?
Yes. The customer receives the quote by email with the measurements, the chosen combination and the price. If several options were discussed, they are included too, so the customer can decide at home and pass on the choice by phone or email.
Does it work for stretching canvases?
Yes. For a canvas you include the stretcher bars, the stretching and perhaps a float frame. The depth of the stretcher determines which mouldings fit, and the software only shows mouldings with a rebate deep enough for that particular canvas.
