Construction and installation: Digital job cards for EV charger installers

Digital job cards for EV charger installers that bring the checked connection plan to site and send back measurements, charger numbers and photos of the fuse box and cable route.

Digital job cards for EV charger installers. A digital job card that tracks preparation, execution and handover. Example with demonstration data.

What a job card for EV charger installers should hold.

An electrician working for EV charger installers arrives on site with a plan that is often in an email or a photo of a sketch. On the job, the board turns out to be laid out differently from the photo, or the cable has to take another route past a window frame. Those choices go unrecorded. Afterwards the charger still has to be registered with the management provider, but the serial number is only on the box that went out with the recycling. Measurements are on a scrap of paper. When a fault or a question from the provider comes in later, there is no way of finding out exactly how the charger was connected and configured.

Example
  1. 1

    Check the connection plan beforehand

    Done

The job card holds the connection plan as checked during preparation: which circuit, which residual current protection, cable type and route, and whether an energy meter for power sharing is included.

  2. 2

    Record deviations and measurements

    In progress

If the situation differs, the electrician records the change with a photo and a short note.

  3. 3

Register the charger and hand over

    Next

The electrician scans or photographs the serial number and charger ID, records the chosen settings and photographs the board, cable route and charger.

From preparation to signed-off card.

Check the connection plan beforehand

The job card holds the connection plan as checked during preparation: which circuit, which residual current protection, cable type and route, and whether an energy meter for power sharing is included. The agreements with the customer about the charger position and finishing the paving are there too, as is the contact on site.

Record deviations and measurements

If the situation differs, the electrician records the change with a photo and a short note. After connecting, they enter the measurements on the card in the fields you have defined. The card cannot move on until those fields are filled in, so no charger is handed over without a recorded check.

Register the charger and hand over

The electrician scans or photographs the serial number and charger ID, records the chosen settings and photographs the board, cable route and charger. The customer signs off. The charger ID goes with the details to the management provider for registration, and the handover documents go into the customer file.

No more paper and loose photos.

Electricians now work with paper, a generic job card app or photos in a group chat. The digital card runs on the phone or tablet they already carry. The connection plan comes from job preparation; measurements and photos go to the file. Charger IDs are passed to the management provider in the format it uses. Job preparation owns the plan, the electrician owns the measurements and deviations. Hours and materials go to the office when the job is closed.

Free-text measurements or fixed fields

A free text field for measurements is quick but produces a report that cannot be compared and is sometimes incomplete. Fixed fields per measurement enforce completeness and make proper reporting possible. Choose fields that fit your way of working and clients' requirements, and leave room for a comment on unusual situations.

Registration by electrician or office

An electrician who registers the charger with the provider on the spot makes it usable for the customer straight away, but has to work in yet another system. Going through the office takes a little longer but adds a check. A middle way is for the card to prepare the details and the office to pass them on with one confirmation.

Photos required or on request

Required photos of board, cable route and charger cost the electrician a few minutes but save a lot of searching when there is a fault or a complaint about the finish. Photos on request are often forgotten. A short, fixed photo set with a clear reason when one is missing works best in practice.

What goes on the job card.

The job card is set up at the start with the checked connection plan, fixed measurement fields, the photo set, serial number and charger ID, and customer sign-off. Which measurement fields are required we agree with you beforehand. Together we walk through an ordinary home charger and a case where the cable has to take a different route on site. The software passes charger details automatically to the management provider once you switch that part on.

Can the job card produce a test report for the customer?

Yes. From the measurement fields, connection plan and photos the card produces a handover document for the customer. You decide what goes in it and how it looks. Clients who require their own format can have a separate version.

What if the charger does not connect to the provider straight away?

The electrician records that the charger is installed but not yet online, with what they tried. The office or the provider picks it up. The card stays open for that one point, so it is not forgotten.

How does the electrician know which settings to choose?

Job preparation records the desired settings on the card, such as maximum charging current and whether power sharing applies. If the electrician departs from them, for example because the supply turns out smaller, they give the reason. That deviation goes back to job preparation.

Can we find the job card again when a fault occurs later?

Yes. The card belongs to the charger and the location. With a fault report, the electrician sees the original measurements, settings, photos of the board and the route. They do not have to work out first how it was connected at the time.
