Manufacturing and processing: Scheduling software for candle manufacturers
Scheduling software for candle manufacturers that spreads pouring batches across pouring tables and allows for cooling, curing and packing before a delivery date is promised.
What makes scheduling hard for candle manufacturers.
For candle manufacturers, the pouring table is rarely the only bottleneck. After pouring, candles need to cool, wicks are trimmed, and some scented candles need extra time to cure before the fragrance comes through properly. Yet schedules often treat a batch as finished the moment it is poured. A rush order for a retail chain jumps ahead of a seasonal collection while the racks are full of candles that are not ready to pack. Sales promise a date based on the pouring table, and the packing team finds out on the day that the labels have not arrived.

Break each run into stages
Every production order is split into pouring, cooling, finishing, curing and packing, each with the time that formulation and shape requires. Materials such as vessels, labels and boxes are linked as preconditions. A batch waiting on a missing box therefore never shows up as ready to pack.
Tables and racks side by side
The planner sees which pouring tables are booked each day and how much rack space is left for cooling and curing candles. A new batch can only be scheduled if there is somewhere to put it once poured. Switching fragrance or wax type on the same table gets its own cleaning time.
Delivery date from the full chain
The date sales give a customer is calculated from the last step in the chain: when the run can be packed and labelled. If a rush order is slotted in, the schedule shows which other deliveries slip as a result. The planner confirms that choice, so sales know which customers need to hear about it.
Alongside your calendar and your team.
Candle makers often plan with a whiteboard by the pouring tables, a spreadsheet of orders and the sales team's calendar. Scheduling connects to the order list or webshop where orders already arrive and takes the standard times per formulation that the production lead knows. Ownership stays clear: sales manage customer commitments, production owns formulations and lead times, and purchasing owns expected deliveries of vessels and labels. The whiteboard can stay as a daily view, fed from the same schedule.
Schedule by fragrance or by shape
Grouping by fragrance saves cleaning time and scent carry-over on the table, but can spread a multi-scent order over several days. Grouping by shape keeps wick setting and moulds consistent. The schedule can suggest either grouping, and the planner chooses whichever sequence needs the fewest changeovers that week.
Pour to stock or to order only
Pouring bestsellers to stock fills quiet weeks and allows fast deliveries, but ties up materials and rack space. Pouring only to order keeps the warehouse lean but makes the run-up to the holidays tight. The schedule shows how much free pouring time there is, so you can decide deliberately when stock batches fit.
Fixed curing time or per formulation
One curing time for every candle is simple, but too generous for some formulations and too short for others. Recording rest time per formulation makes the schedule sharper, provided someone keeps those values current. At the start you can begin with a few categories and refine them where things actually pinch.

From the start, planning spreads production orders across pouring tables and racks, with steps from pouring to packing and materials as a precondition. Together we replay a normal week of repeat orders, and a disruption: a rush order from a retail chain while the labels for another run arrive late. Orders the software places on the board from the order list and a daily overview on a screen by the pouring tables you add later.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the schedule allow for different cooling times per vessel?
Yes. Cooling time can be set per combination of shape, vessel and wax. A thick-walled jar or a large pillar then gets a longer spell on the rack. The planner sees when a batch is genuinely ready for finishing rather than working from one average for everything you make.
What if a pouring table is out for maintenance?
The table is marked unavailable for that period. The schedule then shows which batches can move to another table and which have to slip. The planner decides which orders take priority, and sales see which delivery dates change before anything goes out to customers.
Does the packing team see what is ready that day?
Yes. Packers get their own view of batches that have cooled and been finished, together with the packaging and labels they need. If something is missing, the batch still appears, but with the reason it cannot be packed yet. Nobody ends up waiting around for boxes that have not arrived.
Can we model the holiday rush in advance?
By entering expected orders for that period as provisional production orders, the schedule shows which weeks will fill up the tables or racks. That helps you decide whether to pour stock earlier or bring in extra packing help. It remains an estimate based on what you enter yourselves.
