Construction and installation: Quotation software for stair renovation contractors
Quotation software for stair renovation contractors that counts steps, winders and preparation work for each staircase, so every quote starts from the stairs as they actually are.
Where quotes for stair renovation contractors get stuck.
The price of a stair renovation depends on more than the number of steps. A winder needs a different cap tread and more cutting than a straight step, carpet with glue residue has to come off first and an old laminate layer can sometimes stay and sometimes cannot. At many stair renovation contractors the surveyor works this out in a spreadsheet or on paper, carrying his own assumptions without writing them down. The customer sees a total, later asks why the neighbours paid less, and the workshop only discovers while cutting that the top step has an odd depth. A dispute over extra work at handover then becomes almost inevitable.

From enquiry to signed quote.
Build the staircase from steps
The surveyor records the staircase as a run of steps: straight steps, winders, the top junction with the landing and any landing step. For each part he chooses the finish, the nosing profile and whether a riser is included. The quote rests on a description of the actual staircase, not an average.
Name preparation separately
Removing carpet and glue, fixing creaking treads, taking out the old handrail: each preparation item gets its own line with the assumption behind it. If the surveyor is unsure whether an old layer can stay, he records it as a condition in the quote, along with what it means if things turn out differently.
Record the proposal and choices
The customer receives a proposal with the chosen finish and possibly an alternative, such as another tread finish or with and without a new handrail. On acceptance it is fixed which option was chosen, which conditions apply and which samples were shown. Those agreements go straight to the measurement sheet and the workshop.
Alongside your calculations and price lists.
There is often a price list per tread finish, a spreadsheet with surcharges for winders and an accounting package for the books. The prices and surcharges stay yours; we put them in the quote module so the surveyor no longer adds them up by hand. Purchase prices from the cap tread supplier come from your own lists. Accepted quotes move on to scheduling and later to invoicing, so amounts are never retyped.
Price per step or per staircase
A fixed price per staircase is easy to explain but chafes on stairs with many winders or a long landing step. Pricing per step, with a surcharge for winders and junctions, is fairer and easier to defend. For the customer we can still show a single total, with the breakdown available in the background.
Add a condition or price generously
When you are unsure what lies under the carpet, you can price high or add a condition. Pricing high loses jobs; a condition loses trust if it is poorly explained. A condition with a set extra charge in case it applies, clearly worded in the quote, gives the customer certainty and avoids arguments on renovation day.
Quote on the spot or back at the office
A quote during the survey visit raises the chance of a quick yes. But a surveyor calculating under time pressure is more likely to forget a junction or a preparation step. The software supports both: a quick indication at the customer's home and a final proposal after a second person has checked it.

What we prepare in the quotes.
From the start the quote builds a staircase from individual steps, with your rules for preparation work, options for the customer and online acceptance. We go through a standard closed carpeted staircase with you, and an open staircase with two winders where an unexpected layer of paint turns up under the carpet. Having an accepted quote fill the measurement sheet, and seeing which quotes still need a follow up, is arranged once the surveyors are ready for it.

Explore pricing and optionsCan we keep using our own prices and surcharges?
Yes. The quote module calculates with your own prices per finish and your surcharges for winders, nosing profiles and preparation. When a supplier changes prices, someone on your side updates the list and the new figures apply to new quotes. Existing quotes keep the price they were drafted with.
How do we explain why winders cost more?
By naming them separately in the quote, with a short note that each winder is measured individually and cut from a larger section of board. Customers accept a difference more easily when they can see where it comes from than when it is hidden inside a total.
Can a customer compare two finishes side by side?
Yes, a proposal can hold options, for example a laminate cap tread against solid oak, or with and without a new handrail. The customer picks one on acceptance, and that choice is recorded so the workshop knows exactly what to order and cut.
What if more work turns up on renovation day?
Then the surveyor falls back on the condition in the quote. If it listed a set charge for, say, removing an extra layer of paint, it can be settled without argument. If something comes to light that was never mentioned, it is agreed with the customer before the work continues.
What often connects to this.
- Enquiry form for stair renovation contractorsAn enquiry form for stair renovation contractors that asks about step shapes, the existing covering and the condition of the stairs, so the surveyor knows what to expect at the visit.
- Digital job cards for stair renovation contractorsDigital job cards for stair renovation contractors with a measurement sheet for each step, the order of work and remedial items, so the fitter on the stairs sees what belongs to which tread.
- Invoicing software for stair renovation contractorsInvoicing software for stair renovation contractors: the invoice is built from the signed off staircase, settled conditions and the deposit already held in the same software, and goes to the customer with a payment link.
