Construction and installation: Customer portal for stair renovation contractors
A customer portal for stair renovation contractors where customers see their chosen finish, samples, order of work and renovation day, and can respond before the workshop starts cutting.
What customers of stair renovation contractors want to see.
Between the survey visit and renovation day there are often a few weeks in which the customer has second thoughts. Was it the light or the dark oak, were the risers white or matching, and did the coat rack by the stairs need to go? Stair renovation contractors get calls in that period about questions already answered, and sometimes a late change that arrives after the workshop has already cut. The order of work is unclear to customers too: how long will the stairs be out of use, does the dog need to go out, can the landing still be reached? Without one place for the agreements, every question becomes another phone call.

Access per staircase and address
Each customer gets access to their own renovation, linked to the address and the quote. For a rented home or a block of flats, a managing agent or second contact can follow along too. What the workshop tracks internally, such as production notes, stays out of the portal.
Agreements and samples in view
The portal shows the chosen tread finish with a photo of the sample, the colour of risers and nosings, the handrail choice and the renovation day. Below that sits the order of work: when the old covering comes off, when the stairs cannot be used and what the customer needs to clear beforehand.
Sign-off before production
Before the workshop starts cutting, the portal asks the customer to confirm their choices. Until then a change costs nothing. After that the customer sees the treads are in production and that changes affect price and date. Customer responses land with the job, not in someone's personal inbox.
Less email, the same records.
Stair renovation contractors now send quotes, sample photos and arrangements by email or messaging app. Those messages can continue, but the portal becomes the place where the current version lives. The quote and chosen samples come from the quote module, the renovation day from the schedule. Customers own their contact details and responses; you own the quote, the order of work and the schedule. After handover the portal stays available for care advice and any remedial items.
Portal or just good emails
For a small firm with one surveyor per customer, good emails often work fine. Once several people talk to the same customer, or customers often revisit their choice, a portal helps keep a single version of the truth. It does not replace contact, but it stops the same question being answered three times.
Sample photos or descriptions
A photo of a sample on a screen shows a colour differently from real life. A description with the finish name and code is less ambiguous. We show both: the photo for recognition and the exact name and code as the agreement, with a note that the physical sample from the survey visit is what counts.
Changes until production or until the day
Customers sometimes want to switch right up to renovation day. For treads cut to size, that cannot happen without cost. The portal makes visible the moment the choice is locked in, so customers know until when a change is still free of charge and why that cut-off exists at all.
How it already runs at similar businesses.
What customers find in the portal.
Each renovation gets its own access for the customer, with the samples, order of work, renovation day and sign off before production. Before the portal goes live, we practise with a customer who approves without questions and with one who wants a different riser colour the day before production. Showing remedial items after handover, care advice per tread finish and an overview for managing agents with several staircases are added at the moment you ask for them.

Explore pricing and optionsDo customers need to create an account?
Not necessarily. Customers can open the portal through a personal link in the confirmation email, optionally backed by a code. For customers who come back later for a second staircase, an account is handier, but for a single renovation a link is usually enough.
Can customers move the renovation day through the portal?
Customers can request a change with a reason and a preferred alternative. The scheduler reviews it, because another day can affect fitter availability. Scheduling stays in your hands while the customer still feels heard and knows what happens next.
What do customers see after handover?
After handover customers see the signed job card, photos of the finished staircase and any open remedial items with their planned date. There can also be care advice for the chosen tread finish, such as how to clean laminate or oiled oak treads.
Can we also use the portal for handrail-only jobs?
Yes. A handrail job is a smaller job in the portal, showing the chosen handrail, how it fixes to the wall or stairs and the planned day. The layout is the same with fewer parts, so the customer sees just as clearly what was agreed.
