What a job card for plastic fabricators should hold.
At plastic fabricators, several programs for the same part often circulate: the original program, a version after a drawing change and a version the operator tweaked because the material melted at the original speed. If all of that sits on a shared drive without a clear status, an operator can load an old file. What happens during machining gets lost too: an adjusted spindle speed, a cutter that was replaced, a dimension just outside tolerance on the first-off check. Only the released file
For each operation the job card shows only the program the programmer has released, with revision and date. Sheet material and thickness, fixturing and the tolerances to be measured sit alongside. A file still being worked on is simply not available on the card.
Record machining and measurements
The operator logs start and finish, records adjustments such as a lower spindle speed or a different cutter, and notes measurements for the first piece and for spot checks. If a dimension falls outside tolerance, they pick a reason and can add a photo. Program changes go back to the programmer instead of staying silently in the file.
Finishing and final inspection
After routing, the job card travels to finishing, such as deburring, polishing, bending or bonding. Each step signs off with good and rejected quantities. Final inspection confirms that critical dimensions were measured and counts are right before the job is packed.

At plastic fabricators programs are created in a CAM environment and stored on a server or sent straight to the machine. Jobs sit in the order system. The digital job card points to the released program and pulls job data from the order system. Measuring tools such as callipers or a measuring arm can pass on their readings where possible. The programmer owns the file, the operator owns execution and the quality lead owns the inspection instructions.
Let operators adjust programs or not
An experienced operator often sees faster than the programmer that a speed or feed does not suit a material. Letting them adjust saves time, but without a record that knowledge vanishes. A workable middle ground is that the operator may adjust, logs the change with a reason, and the programmer reviews it for next time.
Measure every piece or sample
For critical parts with tight tolerances, measuring every piece is sometimes necessary. For simple parts a first-off check and sampling are enough. The job card can show the inspection instruction per job, so the operator does not have to guess and the customer can later see what was checked.
Send an inspection report or keep it
Some customers want an inspection report with delivery, others have no use for one. The job card always records the measurements; whether a report is produced for the customer is agreed per order. Nobody has to measure after the fact if a customer asks for one anyway.

The job card only gives access to the program with released status. Older versions are kept as history but not shown as instructions. If a new version is released while the job is running, the operator gets an alert before starting the next piece.
Can operators record what they know about a material?
Yes, on every job they can leave a short note, such as a sheet type melting at higher speed or a fixture needing extra support. That note appears on the next job for the same part. Craft knowledge no longer sits in one person's head.
Does it work if one operator runs several machines?
Yes. The operator sees the open job cards for their machines on one screen and can report per machine. A tablet or a fixed screen between the machines works best. The key is that reporting takes little time, or it will not happen.
What happens to rejected parts?
Rejected pieces are logged on the job card with a reason. If the job needs topping up as a result, the planner sees it immediately. The reasons later appear in reporting, so recurring causes such as wrong fixturing or too aggressive a feed can be addressed.
