Manufacturing and processing: AI enquiry assistant for packaging manufacturers
An AI enquiry assistant for packaging manufacturers that answers questions about bleed, colour profiles and supply specifications from your own guidelines and passes tricky cases to prepress.
Which questions packaging manufacturers keep getting.
Designers and marketers preparing packaging artwork keep asking the same questions: how much bleed around the cutting line, which colour profile to supply in, whether the cutter guide needs its own layer and how to handle a spot colour. At packaging manufacturers those questions come in by email and phone and end up with prepress, who answer them in between checking files. Some are only asked after a file has already been rejected. The answer is often in a supply document already, but it cannot be found or is too general. At the same time, some questions really are specific to a cutting die or print process, and then someone from prepress needs to look.

Choose the guidelines as sources
Together we decide which documents the assistant may use: supply specifications, colour profile guidance, rules for bleed and cutter guides and possibly instructions per print process. Information that varies by customer or job, such as specific dies, stays out. Prepress approves the sources and therefore knows exactly what the assistant can answer.
Match question to guideline
A designer asks, for example, whether a background colour should run to the edge. The assistant recognises a bleed question, gives the guideline from the approved source and says where it can be found. If the question concerns a specific die or an effect the sources do not cover, it says so plainly.
Pass on to prepress
When the assistant is unsure or the question falls outside its sources, it offers to forward it to prepress along with the conversation. The prepress operator sees what has already been asked and does not start from scratch. Answers that turn out to be needed often can be added to the sources after review.
On your own information, with a person behind it.
Packaging manufacturers usually publish their supply specifications as a document on the website or attach them to the order confirmation. The assistant uses those documents and adds no knowledge of its own. Forwarded questions land in the inbox or ticket system prepress already uses. Prepress owns the content of the guidelines and decides when a new version goes live. Sales decides whether the assistant may also answer general questions about the range.
File supply only or quote questions too
An assistant limited to file supply questions has a clear source and a clear audience: designers. If it also gets questions about price and lead time, it must always pass them on, because they depend on run size and scheduling. Many manufacturers therefore start with file supply and add general product information later.
On the website or in the customer portal
On the public website the assistant also helps designers who are not yet customers, but may only give general information. In the portal it knows which customer someone works for and can refer to an item's specifications. Each location has its own sources and its own limits.
Keep conversations or delete them
Keeping conversations shows which questions keep coming back and where the guidelines are unclear. At the same time they sometimes contain names or project details. We agree how long conversations are kept, who may see them and that they are only used to improve the sources.

At the start, the assistant gets your artwork guidelines as its source and answers questions about bleed, colour profiles, cutting lines and file formats from them. Anything beyond that goes to prepress. Before it goes live, we ask it the questions prepress has received most often lately, plus one about a special finish that appears nowhere in the sources. Which topics are added after review is up to you.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the assistant check a supplied file?
No, it does not assess files. It explains the guidelines, so a designer can check for themselves whether their file meets them. Technical file checks stay with prepress. The assistant can, however, point a designer to where files should be uploaded.
What happens if the assistant does not know the answer?
It says it does not know and offers to pass the question to prepress with the conversation attached. It does not guess or draw on general knowledge about print. Prepress replies through the channel the person asking has chosen.
How do we keep the answers up to date?
The assistant only uses sources prepress has approved. If a guideline changes, for example because you install a new press with a different colour profile, you replace the document and the assistant uses the new version from then on. Old versions are no longer consulted.
Can the assistant answer in other languages for designers abroad?
Yes, it can reply in the language the question is asked in. The content stays based on your approved guidelines. If your supply document exists in several languages, we use the right version for each, so technical terms match what prepress itself uses.
