What a job card for model makers should hold.
In a model makers' workshop, several people often work on the same model. One cuts facades, another builds the terrain and a third places trees and figures. When a new drawing revision comes in, not everyone hears about it. A facade gets cut from an old drawing and has to be redone. Agreements with the client, such as balconies being detailed but window frames not, sit in an email the owner received. At delivery a component turns out to have more or less detail than agreed. And if someone drops out halfway, a colleague has to guess which choices have already been made.

A build card per component
Each component of the model gets a build card with the current drawing revision, scale, material and agreed detailing. A maker sees at the start exactly what to make and from which drawing. Client agreements are on the card, not in someone's inbox.

When a new drawing revision arrives, the build cards for components it affects are flagged. The maker sees the drawing has been replaced and what has changed before cutting any further. Components already finished are marked as possibly needing adjustment.
Get detail approved
For components where the client wants to judge detail, such as a facade fragment or a colour sample, a photo is placed on the card for approval. Only after approval does the maker continue with the rest. The workshop avoids detailing an entire facade in a way the client does not want.

Makers work from drawings on a screen or printed out on the bench, and cutting files sit on the computer next to the laser cutter. Agreements live in emails and notes. The build card does not replace the cutting software. It points to the right cutting file and drawing revision and records agreements. The workshop manager owns the build cards; the client owns the drawings and detail approvals. A tablet in the workshop is enough to consult and tick off cards.
A card per component or per model
One card per model is tidy for a small massing study. For a large urban model with many components, that card becomes overloaded and you cannot see where each part stands. Cards per component give a better overview but need a good breakdown up front. The structure of the quote is often a good starting point.
Detail approval before or after
Having a sample approved before making the whole component adds a step but prevents rework. Approving afterwards is faster but risky with repetitive facades. For a simple working model approval afterwards may do; for a presentation model going before a jury, approving first is usually wiser.
Drawings on screen or printed
A screen always shows the latest revision, but a tablet on a bench covered in glue and offcuts is not ideal. Printed drawings are practical but go out of date as soon as a new revision arrives. A combination works: printing is fine, but the build card shows which revision applies and warns when a print is outdated.

Not necessarily. A shared screen or tablet in the workshop is enough to consult and tick off cards. Anyone who prefers printed drawings can keep using them, as long as they check the card for the current revision when starting a component.
How do we know which components a new revision affects?
When you enter a revision, you indicate which drawings have been replaced. Build cards referring to those drawings are flagged automatically. The workshop manager decides per component whether it needs changing or whether the change is not visible at that scale.
Can the client approve detail photos without visiting?
Yes. A photo of a sample or facade fragment is placed on the card and shared with the client through the customer portal or a link. Their approval or comment comes back to the same card. A workshop visit is still possible, but not needed for every decision.
What if a maker drops out halfway through a component?
The build card holds the drawing, the agreements and what has been done. A colleague can pick it up straight away. It helps if makers jot down where they stopped when interrupting work, but the key information is already on the card.
