Food and specialist retail: AI enquiry assistant for meal kit operators

An AI enquiry assistant for meal kit operators that answers questions about menu contents, ingredients and cooking time from approved recipe cards and hands unclear cases to customer service.

AI enquiry assistant for meal kit operators. An AI assistant that answers from approved sources or hands over to a colleague. Example with demonstration data.

Which questions meal kit operators keep getting.

Customer service at a meal kit operator gets the same questions every week: is there peanut in the curry, can I replace the fish with chicken, how long does the rice cook, why is there no lime in my box. Some answers are printed on the recipe card; some concern a packing error and belong with a person. Subscribers tend to ask just as they start cooking, and they will not wait until the next day. An assistant that names allergens wrongly or promises compensation that does not exist damages trust more than a slow reply would.

Release recipe cards as the source

The assistant works from the recipe cards for current and previous weeks, the ingredient lists per dish and approved text on delivery and change deadlines. Anything not released, such as compensation rules or customer details, it leaves alone. An updated recipe automatically replaces the old version in what it draws on.

Link the question to a dish

The assistant works out which dish and which week the question concerns. A question on cooking time or a preparation step is answered from the recipe card. For allergens it gives the list as printed on the card and points to the packaging as authoritative. On substitutions it only repeats alternatives the recipe itself names.

Pass reports to a person

A question about a missing or damaged item, compensation or anything outside the sources goes to customer service. The assistant asks which box and which item, then passes the report on with the conversation attached. It promises no compensation; a member of staff decides.

On your own information, with a person behind it.

Recipe cards are made by the menu team, often in design software or an in-house menu tool. We use the text version per dish as the source. Reports go to the customer service system you already use. If you wish, the assistant can see which box a logged in subscriber received, but it changes nothing in the subscription. The menu team is responsible for the content it answers from.

Logged in subscribers only or everyone

An assistant open to everyone also answers visitors who are still deciding. For logged in subscribers it can know which box they received and answer more precisely. Many operators start with a public version for menu questions and add a subscriber version later, so logging in is never a condition for asking something.

Answer cooking questions or point to the card

The assistant can explain a preparation step or simply point to the recipe card. Explaining is helpful but must not go beyond what the card says. A question like how long in the oven if I do not have one falls outside the source and should be handed over.

Resolve reports or only log them

A report about a missing ingredient could be resolved entirely by the assistant with standard compensation, or simply logged for a member of staff. Resolving is faster but means the assistant makes decisions. Logging and passing on keeps the decision with a person, which we advise while compensation rules still vary case by case.

What the AI assistant may answer.

Questions about ingredients, allergens and preparation are answered by the assistant from the recipe cards; reports about boxes go to customer service. Together we put real questions from a recent week to it, and tricky cases, such as a subscriber asking whether a dish is safe with an allergy that is not on the card. Letting the assistant know which box a logged in subscriber received can be switched on once the portal is in use.

Can the assistant tell me what is in next week's box?

If next week's menu is fixed and released, yes. For a logged in subscriber it can name the chosen dishes. If selection is still open, it points to the portal so the subscriber can make their choice there.

What happens when a subscriber is upset about a missing ingredient?

The assistant acknowledges the problem, asks which box and which item, and passes the report on straight away. It promises neither compensation nor a fix. Customer service sees the report with all details and gets in touch.

Can the assistant adapt recipes for a diet?

No. It can mention alternatives printed on the recipe card but cannot suggest its own changes. For dietary questions beyond that, it refers to a member of staff or to the dietary filters in menu selection. Medical advice stays with people.

How do we find questions the assistant handles poorly?

Every conversation is stored. An overview shows which questions were handed over and where subscribers still got in touch after an answer. That reveals which recipe cards are unclear or which source is missing, and you fix it there.
