What a job card for juice producers should hold.
Juice producers need to be able to trace every bottle back to its batch, when it was pressed and which fruit went into it. In practice that sits on paper production sheets that get wet in the press room, or in a notebook only one regular member of staff keeps up. When there is a complaint about taste or an odd colour, someone has to search through sheets to find the right fruit batch. Checks such as the cold room temperature or a taste test are not always recorded consistently either. Prepare the batch card
For each pressing block in the schedule a batch card is created with recipe, target volume, bottle size and label. The card lists which fruit batches are reserved and which checks belong to this recipe. Staff in the press room see in advance what is going to happen and what they need to record.
Record pressing and checks
During pressing, staff record the weight used from each fruit batch and the volume pressed. Set checks, such as a temperature reading or a taste test, are ticked off at the moment they happen, with the value alongside. If something is off, they note it with a short reason and, where useful, a photo.
Bottle and hand over
After bottling, the number of bottles per size, the pressing date and the best-before date are recorded. The production manager reviews the card and releases the batch for delivery. Every bottle can then be traced to the fruit and pressing moment it came from, and to the checks that were carried out.

The batch card takes recipes and checkpoints from the recipe overview and fruit batches from stock. Staff work on a tablet in a protective case or a fixed screen in the press room, and where that is not possible, on paper that is entered at the end of the day. The production manager decides which checks are mandatory; staff fill them in but cannot skip them without giving a reason.
Screen in the press room or paper
A screen records everything immediately, but the press room is wet and cold and gloves make tapping awkward. Paper is tougher but has to be typed up, and that does not always happen on time. Large buttons, minimal typing and a fixed spot for the screen usually make digital workable.
Mandatory or recommended checks
Mandatory checks make sure nothing is forgotten, but someone who is stuck because a meter is broken still needs to carry on. A mandatory check with the option to skip it with a reason gives completeness without halting the work. The production manager sees every skipped check when releasing the batch.
One batch per recipe or per pressing block
One batch per recipe per day is easy to follow. If the same recipe is pressed in two blocks with different fruit batches, one batch per block is more precise for traceability. It produces more cards but keeps a recall smaller if one is ever needed. The production manager decides per recipe.
What goes on the job card.
Batch cards come straight from the planning; fruit batches, pressing volume, checks and bottled quantities are recorded on them, and the production lead releases the batch. The mandatory checks per recipe go on at the start. An ordinary pressing day and a fruit batch replaced halfway because it turns out to be poor are gone through together. Printing labels with the pressing date from the card and tracing from bottle to batch can be switched on once the cards run smoothly.

Yes, provided the label carries a batch code or pressing date that points to a batch card. Search on that code and you see the recipe, fruit batches, checks and who released the batch. You can also see which other customers received bottles from the same batch.
What if someone forgets a check?
The batch card cannot be completed while a mandatory check is still open. If someone needs to carry on anyway, they have to enter a reason. The production manager sees that reason when releasing the batch and decides whether it can be delivered.
Can the best-before date be calculated automatically?
Yes, from the pressing date and the shelf life you have set per recipe and treatment. The calculated date appears on the batch card and can go onto the label. The period you use remains your own choice and responsibility.
Does this work for small runs with a custom label?
Yes. A batch for a custom label gets the same card, with the customer's label attached. Even for a one-off event delivery you can see which fruit went in and which label was used, which helps if the customer has questions later.
