Outdoor spaces and grounds: AI enquiry assistant for irrigation installers
An AI enquiry assistant for irrigation installers that answers questions about zone programming and operation using approved instructions per controller type, and hands over to a technician for faults or doubt.
Which questions irrigation installers keep getting.
In season, irrigation installers get many questions about operation: how do I run a zone manually, how do I change the run time now it is hot, why does the system come on when it is raining, how do I pause it while we are on holiday? These questions often come in the evening or at weekends, when the client is standing in the garden. The answer differs per controller type. At the same time, some questions point to a fault, such as a zone that will not stop or a puddle by a valve box. Those need a technician, and the wrong advice can mean an empty borehole, a flooded garden or a high water bill.

Release instructions per controller
The assistant only uses approved instructions for each controller type you install, the zone map and programmes of the logged in client, and answers drawn up by the technical adviser. Anything not released, such as prices or warranty terms, it does not use. You manage that selection yourselves.
Recognise operation or fault
A question about changing a run time is recognised as operation and answered with the instructions for that client's controller. A zone that will not stop or water coming out of the ground is recognised as a possible fault. The assistant then gives only the approved first step, such as closing the main valve.
Answer or pass on
If the answer is in the sources, the assistant gives it and names the source. For a possible fault or when in doubt, it creates a report with site, zone and description, and passes it to the planner. The client is told a person will be in touch, with the phone number shown for emergencies.
On your own information, with a person behind it.
The assistant reads from the library of operating instructions, the client's system file and the approved answers. It changes nothing on the controller and books no visits. Questions passed on land in the planner's task list, with the zone and system file attached. The technical adviser owns the instructions and answers. Conversations are kept so you can see afterwards what was said.
General guidance or per controller
General guidance on irrigation helps any visitor, but for a specific question about changing a programme the answer differs per controller. An assistant that knows which controller the client has can help precisely. That requires the client to log in and the system file to be accurate.
Give a first step for faults or not
With a leak, it helps if the client knows to turn off the main valve or the pump. That is a safe first step you can approve in advance. Further diagnosis is not for the assistant, because the wrong intervention can make damage worse. The boundary must be clearly set in the approved answers.
Answer water use questions too
Clients sometimes ask how much water their system uses or how to save. General tips are easy to give. Actual use per zone depends on pressure, sprinklers and run time, and the assistant can only state it if it is in the system file. Otherwise it passes the question on to a person who can work it out.

From the start, logged in clients get answers to operating questions based on the instructions for their own controller that you approved. Possible faults go through to the planner. We try it out together with a client who wants to adjust run times for a heatwave, and with a client reporting that one zone will not stop. General guidance on the public site and instructions for more controller types can be added later.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the assistant operate the controller remotely?
No. It explains how the client can operate the controller or its app themselves. Any remote changes by your technicians remain a human action, taken after talking to the client. The client stays in charge of their own programme.
What does the assistant say about a zone that will not stop?
It gives the first step you have approved, such as closing the main valve or switching off the pump. It then creates a report for the planner with the zone and description. Further diagnosis is left to the technician.
Does the assistant work for controllers we did not install?
Only if you have approved instructions for that type. Otherwise it explains that it does not know that controller and passes the question on. That stops a client receiving instructions meant for a different device.
How do we know which questions come up often?
Conversations are stored and can be reviewed. Questions that are often passed on are a prompt to add an approved answer. The assistant becomes more useful without straying beyond the approved information. The technical adviser approves each new answer.
What often connects to this.
- Enquiry form for irrigation installersAn enquiry form for irrigation installers that asks for the site plan, water connection and planting, so the adviser knows whether a pressure test is needed before drawing up a zone plan.
- Website for irrigation installersA website for irrigation installers that explains which irrigation system suits a garden, sports pitch or business site, and why water pressure and zones shape the design.
- Quotation software for irrigation installersQuotation software for irrigation installers that calculates zones, pipe lengths, sprinklers and trenching from the zone plan, with assumptions about pressure and ground conditions visible to the client.
