Transport and delivery: Scheduling software for delivery and assembly operators
Scheduling software for delivery and assembly operators that matches two-person crews and trip windows to the assembly time per order, so delivery and assembly fit the same customer window.
What makes scheduling hard for delivery and assembly operators.
A delivery and assembly operator promises the consumer a window, say a morning. Within it, the crew has to arrive, unload, carry everything inside and assemble. How long that takes varies hugely: a bed is done quickly, a complete bedroom takes hours. If the planner schedules by number of stops rather than assembly time, the crew is already behind after the second stop and misses the remaining windows. Some items also need two people, and not every fitter is equally experienced with every kind of assembly. A crew that overruns means consumers who took a day off and sat at home for nothing.

From job to confirmed appointment.
Set the effort per order
Each order gets an estimated duration based on assembly standards per item, floor level and home situation. It is also recorded whether two people are needed and whether a particular skill is required, such as kitchen fitting or hanging heavy cabinets. What each order needs is clear before it is scheduled.
Compare crews and windows
Per crew the planner sees available time, skills and the van with its load space. A new order is only proposed for a trip where the assembly time fits the consumer's window and later stops are not put at risk. If an order moves, the schedule shows which other consumers will notice.
Confirm the window to the consumer
Once the trip is set, the consumer gets a confirmation with the window. A day ahead it can be narrowed to a shorter slot based on the final sequence. The crew receives the route with, per stop, the items, assembly work and home situation.
Alongside your calendar and your team.
Delivery and assembly operators often plan in a planning board or transport system, with orders from retailer systems and a fitters' rota in a spreadsheet. The schedule reads orders and assembly standards and adds crew availability and skills. The retailer remains owner of the order; the operator owns crews, trips and windows. Statuses go back to the retailer, so the shop knows when its customer will be served.
Fixed crews or changing pairs
Fixed crews work well together and know each other's strengths. Changing pairs give the planner more flexibility during sickness or peaks, but require everyone to master the same basics. Many operators keep fixed crews for complex assembly and rotate pairs for simpler work. The schedule shows who is in each crew.
Wide or narrow windows
A wide window, such as a whole day, gives the planner room, but consumers dislike it. A narrow window is customer friendly, but leaves little room for overruns. A common middle way is a wide window at booking and a narrower slot the day before, once the route is fixed.
Software proposes or the planner decides
The software can propose orders based on assembly time and windows, but the planner knows that parking is hard in a certain neighbourhood or that one crew is better at kitchens. The proposal stays a proposal; the planner confirms or adjusts, and that choice stays visible to colleagues.

For each order the schedule calculates assembly time, assigns orders to crews by time, skill and window, and confirms the window to the consumer. Your crews with their skills and the usual windows are already in place at the start. We then replay two days: an ordinary day with small and large orders mixed together, and a day on which a crew calls in sick and orders have to be redistributed. Narrowing windows the day before and reporting overruns from the route are switched on once the basics are running.

Explore pricing and optionsWhat happens if a crew overruns on the road?
The crew reports the overrun from the job card, and the schedule works out which following stops are at risk. The planner decides whether another crew takes over a stop or the consumer gets a new slot. The consumer hears as soon as that choice is made, not when the crew is already late.
Can we account for fitters who cannot do everything?
Yes, skills can be recorded per fitter, such as kitchen fitting or heavy wall cabinets. Orders needing such a skill are only proposed for a crew with someone who has it. A crew is not caught unprepared by a job.
How do we handle orders that take more than one day?
An order can be split over several days, each with its own part of the assembly. The consumer then gets a window for each day. The schedule takes into account which crew started the job, so the same people come back where possible.
Does the consumer need to confirm the window?
It helps avoid wasted trips. A short confirmation by message or email is enough. If the consumer does not respond, the planner can call or keep the order with a flag. An unconfirmed order is more likely to find nobody home.
