Food and specialist retail: AI enquiry assistant for ice cream makers
An AI enquiry assistant for ice cream makers that answers questions about flavour combinations, cakes, opening hours and allergens from what the maker has approved, and passes on doubtful cases.
Which questions ice cream makers keep getting.
Ice cream makers get many recurring questions: which flavours are on today, which combination suits a cake for a children's party, is the sorbet vegan, are there nuts in the stracciatella, are you open if it rains? In peak season the whole team is behind the display and messages pile up. Questions about flavour combinations are fun to answer but take time. Questions about allergens are serious and must be answered correctly, because the production room handles nuts, gluten and dairy. An assistant can take a lot of this on, but only with the information the maker has recorded.

Recorded information as the source
The assistant only uses what the maker has released: flavours with their description and ingredients, cake options, seasonal opening hours and a list of combinations the maker recommends. If something is not in those sources, it does not invent an answer.
Answer pairing questions
For a question about which flavours go well together, the assistant picks from combinations the maker has recommended and from flavours available now. If it is about a cake, it points to the cake options and order form. The advice remains the maker's own.
Pass on when in doubt
Allergen questions get the recorded information plus a note that a member of staff must confirm, and are then passed on. Questions about large orders, carts and complaints also go to a person, along with what the customer has already said.
On your own information, with a person behind it.
The assistant reads from the website, the flavour list, cake descriptions and opening hours the maker already maintains. If a list of recommended pairings and a standard allergen text do not exist yet, we write them together; they are useful at the counter too. Passed on questions arrive in the inbox or messaging channel the business already uses. The maker decides which information is used and updates it directly.
Giving pairing advice or only informing
An assistant that suggests combinations makes the conversation more fun and helps with a cake choice. But it has to choose from what the maker likes, not from general ideas. One that only lists flavours is safer but less helpful. Most makers choose advice from their own list.
Treating vegan and allergens separately
Whether a sorbet is vegan can be answered from its ingredients. Whether something is safe for someone with a nut allergy cannot, because traces in production cannot be ruled out. Handling those two questions separately lets the assistant be helpful without promising what is not possible.
Today's flavours or a fixed list
An assistant that knows which flavours are in the display today is more useful, but only if the list is kept up to date. If it is not updated daily, it is better to name the permanent flavours and say the display changes. An outdated list leaves visitors disappointed at the counter.
What the AI assistant may answer.
Once set up, the assistant knows the flavours with ingredients, the cake options, seasonal opening hours and recommended combinations; questions about allergens, large orders, carts and complaints go to a colleague. With a series of ordinary questions and one about nuts in a flavour, we check together whether it answers honestly and passes it on. The daily display list and messaging apps can be added whenever you like.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the assistant say whether a flavour is vegan?
Yes, if the flavour's ingredients are recorded. It then says whether the flavour contains dairy or egg according to the recipe. About traces in the production room, it says a member of staff must confirm, because that does not follow from the ingredient list.
What does it say to a question about nut allergy?
It gives the information you have released about nuts, such as which flavours contain nuts as an ingredient and that the production room handles nuts. It then passes the question to a member of staff. It never says something is safe for someone with an allergy.
Can it take a cake order?
No. It explains which sizes and flavours exist and points to the order form. Every cake order arrives with all the choices needed, and the maker decides whether it can be made on that date. Anything unusual goes straight to a person.
Does it know whether the parlour is open in bad weather?
It knows the opening hours set per season. If you sometimes close in bad weather, you can add a notice, which it will then include. Without a notice it gives the normal hours and points to the phone if in doubt.
