Construction and installation: Scheduling software for fencing contractors
Scheduling software for fencing contractors that lines up groundworks, installation crews, equipment and gate deliveries, so every crew arrives at a site where work can actually start.
What makes scheduling hard for fencing contractors.
A fencing project is a chain of steps that wait on each other. The line has to be set out, then holes are augered or dug, posts are set in concrete, and that concrete needs to cure before panels or a heavy gate can be hung. Fencing contractors often plan it as a single job on a single day, or send the crew back without a clear date. An auger is double-booked, the supplier's gate arrives later than expected, or the crew turns up at a site where the utility check has not been completed. Every delay rolls on into the next projects.

Break the project into phases
Each project is split into setting out, groundworks, setting posts, curing, panel or mesh installation, gate installation and, where relevant, connecting a drive. Each phase carries its time, crew size and equipment. Preconditions such as an approved set-out line, a completed utility check or delivered gates are attached to the phase they belong to.
Allocate crews and equipment
The planner sees for each day which crews, augers, mini diggers and trailers are available. Groundworks on several projects in the same area can be bundled so equipment is not shuttled back and forth. Between setting posts and the next phase, the schedule respects the curing time you work to.
Adjust for weather and deliveries
Frost, heavy rain or a late gate delivery shift phases. The schedule shows which projects move as a result and which crews free up. The planner chooses which work can be brought forward, such as an installation where the posts are already set, and customers only hear once the new date is confirmed.
Alongside your calendar and your team.
Fencing contractors often plan with a whiteboard or shared calendar, a list of live projects and phone calls to suppliers about gates. Scheduling takes projects and runs from the quotes and expected delivery dates from order confirmations. Hired equipment gets its own line with a hire period. The job preparer owns preconditions such as utility checks and set-out lines, the planner owns crews and equipment, and purchasing owns delivery dates.
One crew per project or specialist crews
One crew taking a project from groundworks to gate knows the site and avoids handover mistakes. Specialist crews for groundworks and installation work faster and keep equipment busier, but need a solid handover. The schedule supports both and shows which approach delivers more in a busy period.
Let concrete cure or use a quick foundation
Posts in concrete give a sturdy foundation, but need waiting time before heavy gates or panels go up. Ground screws or rapid-setting material allow same-day installation, with different costs and uses. The choice per project decides whether the schedule needs a return visit for the crew.
Customer date now or after preparation
Giving a date at order is welcome for the customer, but risky while gates are undelivered or the utility check is still pending. A provisional week at order and a firm date once preparation is complete keeps promises realistic. The schedule shows which preconditions are still open.

What we set up in the schedule.
Your phases are ready in the schedule, from setting out and groundworks to curing and gate installation, with crews, equipment and preconditions such as curing time and gate delivery. As a trial we take an ordinary week of garden and site projects and a frosty spell when groundworks stop and installations on posts already set have to be brought forward. Hired equipment, daily crew schedules on the phone and customer messages when dates move can be switched on after that.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the schedule allow for concrete curing time?
Yes. For each foundation type you record the minimum gap between setting posts and installation. The schedule will not book the next phase any earlier. How long that gap is, you decide based on the material used and the weather.
How do we see whether the utility check has been done?
The utility check is a precondition on the groundworks phase. Until it is marked complete, the schedule shows groundworks as not ready. The job preparer records when the check was done and attaches any service maps to the project.
Can different crews share the same equipment?
Yes. Augers, mini diggers and trailers are resources in the schedule. A crew is allocated a resource for a day or half day. Double bookings stand out immediately, and the planner can see which project can move when two crews need the same machine.
What happens if the gate is delivered late?
The gate installation phase stays in place with the new expected delivery date. The fence can still go up, and the schedule creates a separate return visit for the gate. The customer sees a second visit is coming, so nobody thinks the gate has been forgotten.
