For each run, the estimator picks the foundation that suits the ground and the groundworks needed: digging, augering, removing old fencing or hardstanding, and taking away spoil. Each item has a time standard and a material price. A cantilever gate gets its own foundation calculation as a separate item.

The quote supports both, using your own time standards or a figure from the subcontractor, so the comparison between the two stays visible.
Fixed price or provisional sums
A fixed price gives the customer certainty, but nobody knows in advance what lies underground. Provisional items for unforeseen obstacles, such as rubble or the base of an old shed, share that risk more fairly. What matters is that the customer knows beforehand which items are provisional and at what rate.

Yes. For each run you can note whether the ground is level, rises gradually or has to be stepped. With panels that means stepping with extra or longer posts; with mesh the fence can follow the ground. Each choice carries its own materials and time.
How do we price removing an old fence?
As a separate item per run, with a time standard per metre and disposal of materials. If there is old hardstanding or a concrete kerb, that becomes its own item too. The customer sees what removal costs and can choose to do it themselves.
Can we produce quotes for specification work here as well?
Yes, though they often follow the specification's structure. The quote can take over the specification's items and show your calculation for each. Internal pricing stays based on your standards, while the tender follows the layout the client asked for.
What if the customer wants to change the line after accepting?
The changed run is recalculated and a revised quote is created for the customer to confirm. If materials are already on order, the office can see which panels or posts are now extra or surplus before the change goes ahead.
