Transport and delivery: Enquiry form for boat transporters
An enquiry form for boat transporters that captures hull dimensions, weight, lifting details and both locations, so the planner can judge which trailer and crane the job needs.
What makes an enquiry complete for boat transporters.
An enquiry to boat transporters often begins with nothing more than the make and model of the boat. That does not tell the planner how wide the hull is at its widest point, how tall the boat will sit on the trailer, whether the mast comes down or where the slings should go. Locations are often incomplete too: a marina with no mention of whether it has a crane, or a private address with a narrow drive. Boat transporters then call back several times or only find out on arrival. A boat that turns out different from its description can mean the wrong trailer was sent and the whole run has to be redone.

From form to assessed enquiry.
Capture boat and dimensions
The form asks for type, make and model, then overall length, beam, draught and estimated weight. For a sailing boat it asks whether the mast will be lowered and who does it. The owner can upload photos and a drawing or brochure. Anyone unsure of their measurements gets a short explanation of how to take them.
Check locations and lifting options
For both pickup and delivery, the form asks whether there is a crane, travel lift or slipway, and who arranges it. For a private address, questions follow about access, such as road width and obstacles. If no crane is available, it is flagged so the planner knows a mobile crane may be needed.
Pass the request to planning
A completed request reaches the planner or salesperson with every dimension, photo and location detail in one overview. Anything the owner did not know is flagged as an open question. The planner can immediately judge which trailer fits and whether a permit or escort might be required, without having to phone first.
Enquiries in one place, not the inbox.
Enquiries currently arrive by phone, email or a contact form with a free text box. Sometimes a yard or broker passes on details on the owner's behalf. We have the new form land in the inbox or system planning already uses. Photos and documents stay attached to the request. The owner or yard is responsible for the accuracy of the dimensions; the transporter judges what they mean for the run.
Owner fills it in or yard supplies
Owners know their boat, but not always the exact dimensions or weight including gear on board. A yard or marina often has those figures. The form can send the yard a link to complete the details. Information then comes from whoever knows it best, without the transporter becoming a go-between.
Photos required or optional
Photos of the boat ashore, the keel and any protrusions help the planner enormously. Making uploads mandatory can put people off if the boat is still in the water. A middle path is to strongly recommend photos, explain which ones help most, and let the request go through without them as an open question.
Schedule straight away or assess first
A launch between known locations can get a provisional date almost immediately. A large yacht or a difficult location needs someone to look first. Based on dimensions and locations, the form can separate the two, so simple runs move faster and complex ones get the attention they need from an experienced planner.

Read the storyWhich questions the form asks.
The form asks for boat, dimensions, weight, mast and lifting details, plus the facilities at both locations, and is set to your trailers and service area. We go through two enquiries together: a launch from marina to winter storage, and a keelboat to be collected from a private address with no crane. If the planner can assess both without calling back, it goes live. A separate enquiry link for yards can be switched on later.

Explore pricing and optionsWhat if an owner does not know the exact dimensions?
The form explains how to measure them or where to find them, for example in the boat's documents. They can also enter an estimate with a flag. The planner then sees the figure is uncertain and can ask for a photo with a tape measure or contact the yard.
Can we ask whether the mast has to come down?
Yes. For sailing boats the form asks whether the mast will be lowered, who does it and whether it travels on the trailer or separately. That determines load height and sometimes an extra step on site. The planner sees the answer right there in the request.
How do we know if there is a crane on site?
The form asks for each location: is there a crane, travel lift or slipway, and who arranges the lift? For familiar marinas we can pre-fill that. For a private address it becomes clear that a mobile crane is probably needed, so it can be included in the quote from the start.
Can a yard register several boats at once?
Yes. A yard can fill in a line per boat or upload a list with type, dimensions and destination. Each boat is then assessed as its own request, but the planner can see they belong together. That helps when combining them on one low loader or in the same week.
