Food and specialist retail: Scheduling software for spice blenders
Scheduling software for spice blenders that allocates mixers and filling lines by order, allergen sequence and cleaning time, so blends are made on time and kept apart.
What makes scheduling hard for spice blenders.
A spice blender has one or two mixers and a filling line that every order must pass through. Each blend needs its own fill level and mixing time, and after a blend containing mustard or celery the mixer has to be cleaned thoroughly before an allergen-free blend can go in. Choose the wrong sequence and you lose hours to cleaning or risk cross-contact. Meanwhile, rush orders arrive from butchers who need seasoning before the weekend, while a large industrial order has its own delivery date. A paper schedule does not show what a rush order means for the rest of the week. Spice blenders need scheduling that weighs mixer capacity, cleaning and filling together.

Derive mixing jobs from orders
The system turns orders into mixing jobs per blend and revision, with the required quantity and latest ready date. Small orders for the same blend can be combined into one batch that fits the mixer's capacity. The planner sees how many batches are really needed, not just how many orders have come in.
Sequence by allergens and cleaning
Each mixing job carries the allergens of its recipe. The schedule suggests a sequence in which allergen-free blends go first and heavier allergens later, with cleaning time scheduled wherever it is needed. A manual change that breaks the sequence triggers a clear warning before it can be confirmed.
Link filling and confirm
After mixing comes filling in the requested packaging, with changeover time between pack sizes. A batch is only confirmed once its ingredients are reserved. If a batch slips because of a breakdown or a missing ingredient, the planner sees which orders will miss their delivery date and can decide what takes priority.
Alongside your calendar and your team.
The schedule reads orders from the order or ERP system, recipes and allergens from recipe management and ingredient stock from inventory. The production manager maintains mixer capacity, mixing times and cleaning rules; the schedule calculates with them but does not change them. Operators see their jobs for the day in the right order on a screen at the mixer, and if they depart from that order they record why.
Combine batches or mix per order
Combining small orders into one batch saves cleaning and changeover time, but means a small order sometimes waits until there is enough volume. Mixing per order shortens lead time but fills the mixer inefficiently. The schedule shows per blend what combining would gain, so the planner can choose deliberately.
Fixed allergen days or daily sequence
Some blenders use fixed days for blends with certain allergens, so cleaning is predictable. Others plan every day in a fixed order from light to heavy. Fixed days are easy to monitor but make rush orders awkward. A daily sequence is more flexible but needs a schedule that applies the rules strictly.
Rush orders first or a fixed plan
A butcher who is out of sausage seasoning on Friday does not call for nothing. Giving rush orders priority keeps small customers happy, but can squeeze a large industrial order. The schedule shows what a rush order pushes back, so the decision is made deliberately and not under pressure on the phone.
What we set up in the schedule.
Orders become mixing jobs, bundled within the mixer capacity and put in an allergen sequence with cleaning time, leading into filling. That way the planning is ready when we go through an ordinary week with you, and a rush order for a blend with mustard that has to fit between two allergen free batches. A screen at the filling line and alerts for missing ingredients can be switched on once the planning runs smoothly.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the schedule handle different capacities per mixer?
Yes. For each mixer you record minimum and maximum fill. The schedule splits large jobs across several batches and combines small ones as long as they fit. A job that is too small for the large mixer goes to the small one, if you have it.
How does the operator know which cleaning is needed?
Between two batches, the screen at the mixer shows the cleaning step your rules require, from a quick dry clean to a full wet clean. The operator ticks it off before the next batch can start. Afterwards you can see that the cleaning was done.
What if an ingredient arrives late?
The batch that needs it is marked as not ready to start. The schedule shows which orders slip as a result and suggests bringing another batch forward. The planner decides, and the change is recorded along with the reason.
Can we split a batch over two days?
Mixing usually happens in one go, but filling can be split. You can fill part of a mixed batch today and the rest tomorrow. The schedule tracks how much mixed blend is still waiting to be filled and how long it has been waiting.
