Business supplies and services: AI enquiry assistant for packaging design studios
An AI enquiry assistant for packaging design studios that answers questions about die files, file formats and way of working from approved information, and passes anything uncertain to a designer.
Which questions packaging design studios keep getting.
Packaging design studios get the same technical questions again and again. What file format should a die file be in? Should the client request the die line from the printer? Can you work with a cutting die the printer already holds? How far should the bleed extend? A designer answering those in between loses focus on the actual work. At the same time some questions cannot be answered in general, because the answer depends on the printer, the substrate or a specific file. An assistant that answers everything is therefore riskier than having no assistant at all.

From question to answer or colleague.
Choose approved sources
The studio decides which information the assistant may use: the artwork supply guidelines, explanations of structures and die files, the way of working per route and frequently asked questions. Every piece of text has been approved by a designer or project lead. Information that varies by printer is only used if the source explicitly says so.
Understand the question
The assistant reads the question and searches the approved sources. A general question, such as which files the studio needs to get started, gets an answer with a link to the source. If the question concerns a specific file or a printer not covered by the sources, it recognises that the answer cannot be given in general terms.
Answer or hand over
If the answer is in the sources, the assistant gives it with a link to the explanation. When in doubt, or for a question about a particular file, it passes the conversation to a designer along with the question and any attachment. The designer replies personally and can later add that answer to the sources.
On your own information, with a person behind it.
The assistant runs on the website or in the customer portal and uses text you already have: artwork supply guidelines, explanations on the site and answers from emails you find yourself repeating. Handed over questions land in the studio's inbox or project system. The studio owns the source texts and decides what the assistant may say. Clients keep ownership of any files they attach, and those are not used to train the assistant.
General only or per project too
An assistant on the public site answers general questions about working methods and artwork supply. In the customer portal it could also tell a client the status of a proof. That needs tighter controls, because the assistant may then only show data from that client's own project. Many studios therefore start with general questions.
Answer directly or always a person
For simple questions, such as which file format is preferred, a direct answer saves everyone time. For questions about a specific die file you always want a designer to look. It is a choice per topic, and it rests with the studio, not with the assistant. You can also open up a topic at a later stage.
Allow file uploads or not
A visitor sometimes wants to attach a die file and ask whether it is usable. The assistant does not assess the file itself, but can pass it on to a designer. You can also switch uploads off and ask the visitor to send the file through the enquiry form, so it ends up with the right brief.
What the AI assistant may answer.
The delivery guidelines and the explanation of die files are the assistant's source at the start; it answers general questions and passes on anything uncertain. We test it together against an ordinary question about bleed, and against a question about a specific printer's die that is not in the sources. Answers designers gave to escalated questions are added to the sources afterwards.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the assistant check a die file?
No. The assistant does not assess files or give a technical judgement on a specific die line. It can explain what a good die file should meet according to your guidelines and pass the file to a designer who will look at it properly.
What if the assistant gives a wrong answer?
Because it only draws on approved sources, an error usually comes from an unclear or outdated source. Every answer can be traced back to the text it came from. You correct that text and from then on the assistant uses the new version.
Does a designer see the whole conversation on handover?
Yes, the designer receives the question, what the assistant has already answered and any attachments. The visitor does not need to repeat anything. The designer replies by email or through the portal as you normally would, and can propose the answer as a new source.
Can the assistant answer in Dutch as well?
Yes, if the sources are also available and approved in Dutch. The assistant does not use a translation that has not been reviewed. For brands working across borders it makes sense to have a designer check the artwork supply guidelines in both languages.
