Food and specialist retail: AI enquiry assistant for nut retailers
An AI enquiry assistant for nut retailers that answers questions about mix composition, allergens and storage using approved information, and hands uncertain cases to a member of staff.
Which questions nut retailers keep getting.
Nut retailers get the same questions again and again: is there peanut in the trail mix, are the wasabi nuts gluten-free, how long does a mix stay good and can I get a smaller gift box? Behind the counter, staff answer from memory, but online those questions arrive by email, chat and social media, often outside opening hours. A wrong answer about allergens is not a small slip. At the same time, a nut retailer does not want every question about Saturday opening hours to take up someone's time. An assistant should handle the common questions with information the shop itself has approved, and be careful wherever health is involved.

Choose the approved sources
The shop decides what the assistant may draw on: the recipe list with composition, allergen information per mix, storage advice, opening hours and the terms for business orders. Anything not in there, the assistant does not know. When a recipe changes, the assistant automatically works from the updated version.
Recognise and scope the question
The assistant works out what a question is about: composition, storage, gift packaging or delivery. On allergens it quotes the recorded information word for word and advises getting in touch in case of a serious allergy. It makes no claims about cross-contamination beyond what the sources say.
Answer or hand over
If the answer is clearly available, the assistant gives it with a reference to the source. If it is unsure, or someone asks for a custom mix or a price arrangement, it passes the question to a member of staff with the question and contact details attached. The customer is told that someone will get back to them.
On your own information, with a person behind it.
The assistant runs on the website and, if you like, in the chat tool you already use. It reads from the recipes and allergen information the shop maintains for the website and mixing cards, so no separate knowledge base is needed. The shop remains the owner of every answer; handed-over questions land in the mailbox or overview staff already check, together with the conversation so far.
Answer allergen questions or always refer
An assistant that quotes allergen information word for word helps most customers quickly. If you worry about misunderstandings, you can choose to pass every allergy question to a member of staff. That is safer but slower. The shop decides which approach fits, depending on how confident it is in its own information.
Website only or messaging apps too
On the website the assistant is easy to scope. In messaging apps, customers expect a personal reply sooner and send photos or voice notes. Starting on the website and expanding later is usually wiser. The site chat shows which questions really come in, and that knowledge carries over when you add a messaging app.
Fixed answers or its own wording
Fixed answers per question are predictable but sound stiff and do not cover every variation. An assistant that phrases answers from the sources sounds more natural. For allergens and prices, the shop can enforce fixed wording and allow more freedom elsewhere, so sensitive information stays exactly as written.
What the AI assistant may answer.
Questions about mix composition, allergens, storage, opening hours and gift packaging are answered by the assistant only from the approved sources, and everything else goes to a colleague. Before it is on the site, we put to it an ordinary question about a standard mix and a question from someone with a nut allergy who wants to know whether a mix is safe. Messaging apps and an overview of unanswered questions can be switched on later.

Explore pricing and optionsCan the assistant say whether a mix is safe for an allergy?
It can only repeat which allergens the mix contains according to your own information. It gives no guarantee and recommends getting in touch in case of a serious allergy. What it says about cross-contamination is entirely up to what you put in the sources.
What if the assistant cannot answer a question?
It says so honestly and asks whether a member of staff may get in touch. The question arrives in your overview with the contact details. No customer gets lost, and you can see which topics are still missing from the sources.
Can the assistant take orders?
No. It can explain how ordering works and point people to the online shop or enquiry form, which already helps them on their way. Orders, price arrangements and custom work stay with people, because they involve choices the assistant should not be making.
How do we know what customers are asking the assistant?
Conversations are kept in an overview showing the topic and whether the question was answered or handed over. You can see which questions keep coming up and where a source needs adding to. Personal details are only stored if the customer provided them.
