Construction and installation: Operations dashboard for insulation contractors
An operations dashboard for insulation contractors that shows material use per area, differences between survey and installation and homes that dropped out, with the source of each deviation.
Which figures insulation contractors really need.
Insulation contractors price their quotes on an expected usage per square metre, but whether that holds in practice nobody knows exactly. Does one crew consistently use more than another, or is it a particular type of home? The gap between survey and installation is invisible too: how often does a crawl space turn out differently from the survey, and with which adviser or home type? And homes where the crew could not start, because of a blocked hatch or water, are rescheduled without anyone tracking how many days that costs. Without an overview, quotes rest on assumptions that are never tested.

From scattered figures to one overview.
Agree terms and thresholds
We agree what usage per area means, when a deviation from the survey counts and what a dropout is. Is a small change in area a deviation, or only a different work boundary? Has a home dropped out if the crew returns later that day? Those agreements make the figures meaningful.
Data from existing records
The dashboard draws on quotes, survey reports, job cards with quantities per section, inventory with usage per batch and the schedule with dropouts. Nothing is entered separately for the dashboard; the records of crews and advisers are the source. Nobody does extra admin for it.
Click through to the home
If the dashboard shows usage on a certain home type running above the calculation, you click through to the homes, job cards and survey photos. You can then investigate whether it is the survey, the density when blowing or conditions in those homes.
Figures from your own work.
The data sits in quotes, survey reports, job cards, inventory and the schedule, or in the spreadsheets doing that job now. The dashboard shows it without copying it into a separate package. Advisers keep ownership of surveys, crews of their records, the warehouse of usage and the scheduler of dropouts. Each figure shows which homes it comes from, so a conversation about a deviation is about facts.
Usage per crew or per home type
Showing usage per crew can help compare working methods but quickly feels like surveillance. Showing it per home type first gives insight into technical causes. Differences between crews are better discussed in conversation than on a screen everyone sees, which is why the dashboard starts with home type.
Survey deviations per adviser
Showing survey deviations per adviser can improve surveys but can also make people defensive. Deviations often stem from home type or access, not the adviser. Starting with home type and only then looking at people avoids wrong conclusions and keeps the conversation focused on improving.
Accept dropouts or reduce them
Dropouts from a blocked hatch or a resident not being home seem unavoidable. But if the dashboard shows they happen mostly on housing projects, better communication beforehand can help a lot. Measuring is the first step to knowing whether reducing them pays off, and the dashboard shows the reasons per project.

Which figures we put on the dashboard.
At the start the dashboard shows usage per area and home type, deviations between survey and installation, and dropped-out homes with the reason. To check the figures hold up, we set it against a month of ordinary private jobs and against a housing project with many dropouts from blocked hatches. Lead time from enquiry to installation, usage per batch, a comparison between seasons and, if it proves needed, between crews can be switched on whenever you have questions about them.

Explore pricing and optionsHow do we know whether our calculated usage is right?
By comparing the calculated usage from the quote with the usage recorded on the job card. The dashboard shows that difference per home type and method. Over a longer period you see whether the calculation is consistently too low or too high.
Can we see which home types often differ from the survey?
Yes, if deviations are recorded on the job card with a reason. The dashboard then shows per home type how often and why the work went differently. That helps make surveys of those homes more focused.
Who has access to the dashboard?
You decide. Often the owner, scheduler and head of operations. Figures per crew or adviser are only visible to those who need them for coaching, so the dashboard stays a tool rather than a scorecard. Access can be set per role.
Does the dashboard count the cost of dropouts?
It counts how many homes dropped out, for what reason, and how many crew days had to be repeated. What that means in money depends on your cost per crew day. If that is known, the dashboard can include it.
What often connects to this.
- Digital job cards for insulation contractorsDigital job cards for insulation contractors with the survey report and work boundaries, so the crew knows where the work starts and stops and records deviations on site.
- Website for insulation contractorsA website for insulation contractors that explains cavity wall, floor, crawl space and roof insulation per type of home, including the access and preparation needed before a survey makes sense.
- Enquiry form for insulation contractorsAn enquiry form for insulation contractors that asks about construction, area and access to the crawl space, cavity or loft, so the office knows whether a survey can go ahead.
